Yesterday, the Lishui City Wildlife New Records and Liandu District Wildlife Resource Baseline Survey Results Press Conference was held to introduce the findings of the survey.
Conducting a baseline survey of wildlife resources is of great significance for advancing ecological civilization at the county level and for biodiversity conservation. Liandu District is the only pilot area for the “County-level Wildlife Resource Baseline Survey” in Lishui City and the entire province. The survey officially began in November 2022 and has now successfully completed the investigation of wildlife resources.
After nearly two years of investigation, the project has comprehensively clarified the types, numbers, and distribution of wildlife in Liandu District, discovering a total of 632 species of wild vertebrates, belonging to 37 orders and 138 families, accounting for approximately 87.3% of the total number of vertebrates in the Lishui area. This includes 6 orders and 18 families of 88 fish species, accounting for 73.3% of the distribution records in the Lishui area; 2 orders and 9 families of 38 amphibian species, accounting for 86.4%; 2 orders and 16 families of 56 reptile species, approximately 77.8%; 8 orders and 23 families of 63 mammal species, approximately 84%; and 19 orders and 72 families of 387 bird species, approximately 93.7%. The survey included a large number of rare and endangered species, with 16 species under national first-level protection, including the Tufted Deer (Muntiacus crinifrons), Chinese Pangolin, Yellow-bellied Tragopan, White-necked Long-tailed Pheasant (Syrmaticus ewllioti), and Scaly-sided Merganser, among others. There are 87 species under national second-level protection, including the Chinese Serow (Capricornis milneedwardsii), Ocelot, Macaque, Black Eagle, and Yellow-faced Owl, among others.
It is worth mentioning that during this survey, 15 new records were discovered, including 5 new records for Lishui City and 10 new records for Liandu District. The new records for Lishui City include 1 bird species, the Glossy Ibis, a first-level national protected animal; and 4 mammal species, including the Greater Horseshoe Bat, Harpiocephalus harpia, Murina huttonii, and Myotis davidii, all of which are nationally protected animals. The new records for Liandu District include 3 bird species: the Ferruginous Duck, a key protected animal in Zhejiang Province; the Large Woodshrike and Spotted Forktail, both nationally protected animals. One fish species: Microphysogobio oujiangensis, a nationally protected animal. Three amphibian species: Paramesotriton aurantius, a second-level national protected animal; Oriental Fire-bellied Newt and Tientai Rough-skinned Frog, both nationally protected animals. Three reptile species: Webbed-toed Gecko, Takydromus kuehnei, and Pareas formosensis, all nationally protected animals.

Three new reptile species were found: Webbed-toed Gecko, Takydromus kuehnei, and Pareas formosensis, all of which are nationally protected.
In addition to the survey work, in recent years, Liandu District has also protected the “life channels” of wildlife from three aspects: wildlife damage insurance, full-region rescue, and collaborative cooperation. In October 2020, it took the lead in the city to insure public liability for wildlife damage. Starting in 2023, Lishui City implemented a “city-wide unified” purchase of wildlife damage liability insurance. To date, Liandu District has compensated a total of 490,000 yuan. Since 2020, the district has invested more than 800,000 yuan in wildlife protection funds, established one wildlife rescue point in the urban area, and built 24 grassroots wildlife rescue grid points, having rescued more than 530 wild animals in total. A joint meeting system for the protection of wild animals and plants in Liandu District has also been established. Since 2020, more than 150 wildlife protection law enforcement actions have been carried out, 11 cases have been transferred, effectively protecting the safety of wildlife.
